    outward training inward learning

It is the first time for most of us to attend the outward training, but the two-day training brings us more than something interesting or something fresh, but something valuable and something thought-provoking.

We all know that as an individual, a person will become from dependent to independent and finally to co-dependent, especially in this highly diversified society. So nearly everyone knows that we should cooperate with others in a team, but seemingly few people know how to cooperate, the green hand in particular.

From the items in the outward training, I believe most of us have a better light of a successive team. We know that a successive team is a cooperative team; it is a team that will give full play to each member’s competence and skills; it is a team in which each member will exert his utmost to support the clearly-defined objective once an agreement is reached among the members, even though someone may have different opinions or dissension; it is a team in which the right person is put in the right place.

Another fruit we got from the outward training is that we realize the importance of time management. In my opinion, time management at least involves two aspects.

First of all, one should be clear about the tasks and projects he is supposed to finish, and he should also give priority to the most important one and make sure it is finished on time. Secondly, before doing a task, a time management plan should be worked out, that is to say, a task will be divided into several steps and we should make a milestone of each step and work out a schedule or timetable. And it is very essential that we should bear in mind the deadline.

A good case in point is what happened during the item of TRAFFIC JAM. Before the commencement of the game, we were informed that we only had 30 minutes to find the way out, and the moment the trainer gave us a signal to begin, we all buried our head in the discussion and began pondering over how to solve the problem. And in fact the discussion was so hot that nearly every one of us forgot the 30-minute limit. At last we were told time was up before we could realize the deadline. After the item, when we summarized the reason why we failed in the item, most of us agreed that the root cause is the lack of ideology of time management. If anyone of us could have taken notice of the 30-minute limit, and had spared 5 minutes to comb our mind, we may have been successive in the item.

Another significant thing that I learned is how to be a good team leader. First of all, a good team leader is more than a participant. The leader should have a bird’s-eye of the whole thing, who can thus constantly keep the team on the right track. Moreover a good team leader is supposed to establish a sound atmosphere in which everyone can voice his opinion and share information. A good team leader should also be able to reach common ground among the members with different viewpoints while shelving the differences. A good team leader is supposed to know the advantages and weaknesses of the members so that their strong points can be full utilized and their deficiencies can be offset.  A good team leader is really a high-demanding post, and I believe there are still a lot of other qualities for a good team leader.

The outward training really provides much food for though. What I wrote on paper is only a small proportional of what we have learned, because it is my conviction that I will have a deeper understanding of the spirit of cooperation, time management and so on and even something that I am not able to understand at the moment.

There is a Chinese saying goes like this, the past lessons, if not forgotten, can be guidance for the future. So I hope what I have learned and felt in the outward training can also be guidance for my future work.
