September 22 Process or resultBack into the school day’s, during one of the so-called bedroom talks, one of my roommate made the remark that when we are young, people attach more importance to what we are doing than what we have accomplished. But as we grow older, people, even including ourselves, care more what we have achieved rather than how we achieved it. At that time, this is a more difficult question than one from a test paper.
When I joined the company, I learned many jargons, one of which is called result-driven, and it is also one of the items that will be reviewed at the end of every year during the performance review. But unfortunately, I do not get a good feedback on this item. And I am asked to be more result-driven.
Several weeks ago, the whole department attended quite an exciting and challenging outward training, including an oriented match and the CS camp. In the orienting, we are given a task, asking us to reach a selected destination. But the tasks are more than that. Besides getting to the destination, we also need to pick up at least 30 different kinds of leaves, get the signatures of more than 15 strangers and find out at least 5 local tales. These assignments make the orienting funnier and more meaning ful. In the process of finishing these assignments, we are not purely heading for the destination without enjoying the beautiful sceneries around us, but we are definitely intoxicated by the fascinating nature. September 03 ChoiceA friend of mine is going to leaving China to work in Dubai this Saturday, this is her choice. We can make a very interesting comparison between choices and the TV channels, if we only have a couple of channels, people might complain that there is nothing interesting to watch, but on the other hand, when we have a good many TV channels, we probably would say I do not which one to choose.
It is the same with our choices about other things, sometimes, people say I wanna change, but I have no other choices; but let us think the other way around, if we have a bunch of choices, do we really how to make a choice? Or what may have to put a lot of things into consideration to make a so-called sound choice, and all these adds to the uncertainty of the choices.
The western saying goes like “ You can not eat and have the bread”. The Chinese philosophy tells us you have to discard something if you want to get something. While the economists might suggest considering the cost of opportunity when making the choice.
This is life, a life of antinomy, a life full of uncertainty, a life which is really live instead of rehearsed, a life, in which we might cheer on a choice we have ever made or regret with a sigh of not making the right choice. |
